I don't know what thread you're talking about. All government is an infringement of our rights. The existence of the police, as the enforcers for the State, are an infringement of our rights. That a cop stopped the attacker does not change this fact, nor does it justify the existence of State police or their infringements. No one has a right to initiate force against someone who has not used force themselves; the attacker was infringing on the rights of others. The cop was as well; he was not acting as individual, but as an agent of the State. Is the outcome "good"? Yes, in the sense that no further harm took place. Do the ends justify the means? No, absolutely not.
