MU Savitar 1943, page 37:
"A True Son of Mizzou is Dr. Dudley Conley, dean of the School of Medicine. Not only was he born in Columbia, graduated from the University, and returned to head its oldest branch, but he is extremely impartial to it. Since he recieved his degree in 1899, he has been away from Columbia only to serve in the United States Army."
Its not meant to be exclusionary or indicate that being such is superior, simply that its a reference to someone born in Missouri who stays 'true' to the state and graduates from MU and goes on to represent it well. Its no different than being an American citizen by account of being born here, but that doesn't indicate being a superior American to those who weren't.
