1) she felt guilty for some reason, and had to come clean. maybe someone was ready to out her for some reason.
2) she was hooking up with one of the players, the player(s) dropped her, and this is her way of getting back at the player/team.
from my understanding (10yrs ago), this was a pretty common thing, and the tutors knew exactly what they were getting into, and didn't mind.
