I felt, and still do, that Trump never had any plan at all

for how he would campaign and certainly not "playing" the media. It think he was simply himself, never intended to be otherwise (until just before the election when he FINALLY started listening to the good advice he'd ignored for many months.

So, he won almost entirely for one simple reason - he ran against the worst candidate in US history. IOW, he lucked the hell out.

And, if hilary had won, it would have been essentially for the same reason. (Trump being 2nd worst).
