This isn't the same Davidson program that had Quin's number back in the day, although that program was still very good at the time. I think people are still thinking of Davidson as a strong but beatable team from a one-bid league, which is why everyone's posting things along the lines of "I can't believe we lost by 15 to Davidson."
Fact is, in the post-Curry era, Davidson is no longer an unheralded SoCon power-- it's a consistent, strong Atlantic Ten program that expects to compete for an at-large on a yearly basis. They were an at-large as recent as two years ago and won 20 games in the A-10 last year, a league that has typically rated around the same as the SEC for the past five years.
They have an All-American caliber point guard. They will be in the NCAA Tournament conversation. And we lost to them by 15. Did we perform well? Absolutely not. But it's not a bad loss by any means.
We came out of Puerto Rico with a win over an AAC program, an overtime loss to a potential Final Four team and a throwaway loss to a strong A-10 program. I'm not saying we should aspire to that as a program, but considering what we've been through, it was not a total disaster, nor was it unexpected.
