Northwestern State, who historically has been decent, was crushed by over 35 points by both Oklahoma and Texas A&M, and barely beat a non-D1 team by 5.
NC-Central is a cupcakey sounding name, but is 2-2, following two wins against Western Carolina and Jackson State, a 6 point loss to Ohio State, and a 12 point loss to Marshall. Frankly that's not all that different from us.
Western Kentucky, a historically good program is 2-1 following wins against Alabama State and Jacksonville State, and a crushing 21 point loss to Belmont. They play three contests before they play us, including a game against Washington.
Finally, we play Miami-Ohio who has two very close 2-point losses, one to Wright State and one to Delaware, plus a 6-point win against Austin Peay and a blowout win against a non-D1 opponent. They play three cupcakes prior to their tilt with the Tigers.
We should go 4-0 in this stretch, but how we play is obviously key for determining how we are going forward.
We should emerge from non-conference at 8-4, but perhaps 9-3 if we could beat Illinois. And one never knows versus Arizona - that's why they play the games.
