It matters whether it's offered in a helpful attempt to move everyone forward.
Ridicule and derision won't do that.
If you want to help a family member with an issue, you direct their attention to productive positive things they are doing and help them maximize all that type stuff.
If you want to hurt someone and drag them down, you point out terrible things they wish were not part of their lives and make fun of them for those conditions.
Snide, nasty, non-helpful.
I think we have a fundamental misunderstanding of politics on our hands here. It's about advancing the group into better and better conditions. That's the actual straight purpose of it.
