If TP and FH shoot and play that poorly, I don't think it will matter how well CVL, Puryear or Nikko contribute. They need to rest for 24 hours and regroup. TP has been pushing everything and is not distributing the ball well. I don't have an explanation. He has been the prototypical pass-first PG up until the last 45 minutes of basketball. It's very difficult to determine how to react to that as a coach. I think this early on, you do what we did: pull them for a while and try to get them in fresh to start over and build confidence. If this were an elimination game however, I think a coach would have reined them both in to the effect of "you guys aren't hitting today. They can't defend Nikko. Keep feeding him. Nikko, when they start to double you, kick out to CVL or Walton.
CVL and Nikko played well. Puryear played a solid game, as did Jackson. Walton and Geist did some good things. But we won't win with the stat lines TP and FH put up today.
