What is the cutoff point for buying a warm fuzzy?

The paranoia brought on by 9/11 has led us to do some really stupid things. It also made us quite dangerous.
- The total cost of the Afghan & Iraq wars is estimated to be $4-6T:

- Over 5,700 KIA.
- A minimum of 150,000 Iraqi civilians dead. Some estimates go as high as 500K. That's sure to make them see us as their friends.
When you consider Bin Laden precipitated this with only 19 fanatics and about $250K to fund the operation, you could make the argument it is the most spectacular payoff in human history.
And are we $4-6T safer? I would say not. Your precious bundles who text and drive are more likely to kill me than some jihadist.
If there's a hell, Bin Laden's down there and he's most certainly laughing his azz off right now. He's also saving seats for Dubya, Rummy, Cheney, Wolfowitz, and Condoleeza Spice.
Oh what a stupid and fearful people we have become...
