There is no end state. You see I am a little bit like you. I would love a return to the halycon days of the early sixties when the nation invested in itself, reached for the moon, taxed the high-end elites at a high-end rate, where we had solid secondary and elementary education, where we pulled together as a nation rather than apart as factions. I would love to see a more participatory economy. You can't support a consumption-based economy without paying consumers a wage with which they can consume.
There is no utopia, but we might consider restraining our immediate gratification with some concern of the future. Let's abandon uni-polarity and look again to a tri-polar world. Perhaps that is the direction Trump sees with Russia. Rapacious Capitalism rips the heart and soul from the country. I think that opening up national park land for extractive industries that will ravage that very land is blindness. Profit for a few for a brief window of time and utter destruction of the natural world makes no sense. Especially considering that TODAY we are on the cusp of sustainable energies taking over. Our choice is to pursue those techs with all of the innovative brilliance of America and lead the world in the fields of energy for another century OR to fall to the last remnants of oil and coal and be a 2nd-3rd tier player in energy in this century. but I digress.
WE CAN DO BETTER.
