But hiring a mass deportation force accomplishes what exactly?

The devil in both are the details and how it will be done.

Where are these criminals right now? If they are truly violent criminals, shouldn't they be in jail? Or have they served their sentence and are now back?

If someone illegal is found guilty of a violent crime, I would certainly prefer they be deported over having to pay for their prison stay..that is for sure.
