You don't want your country completely dependent on other countries for food, energy (oil, coal, natural gas, etc.,) or production. There's a reason we subsidize farmers as a country, they make the food and we need to make sure they can make a profit doing so or else they wouldn't. Food is a national security issue.
This is as much a jobs issue as a national security issue. Every country out there that sucks ass depends on other countries for something. Offshoring manufacturing is good business for a lot of companies and bad business for America as a whole, even beyond the jobs.
