C.J. Roberts was eager to get the recruiting process over with.
The North Richland Hills, Texas, native said that being recruited was fun but, over time, it became more stressful. Roberts will officially end that process Wednesday, when he signs his National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Missouri.
He will become the first signee for head coach Kim Anderson’s 2017 class.
“It’s a long, hard process, but at the end of the day, there aren’t very many that are getting the attention like I am,” Roberts said.
Although the three-star prospect, according to 247sports, will sign Wednesday, he’s having a formal ceremony in front of Richland High School and his family and friends Thursday.
Since he verbally committed to Missouri in September, Roberts told every school that he was shutting his recruitment down. The only coaching staff he’s heard from is Missouri’s, who call him on a daily basis to touch base with Roberts, as well as to give him updates about what’s happening on campus and with the team.
Beyond connecting with the Missouri coaching staff on the court, Roberts said what really stood out were the conversations that were not about basketball.
“They talked to me about life situations that I really needed to hear from other people that weren’t my parents,” Roberts said.
He’s planning a visit to Columbia see a game with his friends sometime over winter break.
With the Letter of Intent signing imminent, Roberts turns his focus to taking his high school team to the state championship and hopes to become Texas’ “Mr. Basketball.”
“I’m just really blessed and I got to give all the glory to God and my family,” Roberts said.
