It sounds crazy, but David Benkof of the Daily Caller lays out his case for why a conservative should opt for Hillary over Trump in an editorial entitled "Better A Democrat Than A Dictator".
Here's my favorite quote from the article:
"Unless you’re comfortable with tyranny, rejecting Trump halfway by sitting out the election is no longer okay. True, both candidates are noxious, but proffering their equivalence is facile – and dangerous."
His main point is that our democratic system is too sacred to risk subjecting it to a candidate whose loose lips suggest autocratic tendencies. Here are some examples:
Let's cancel the elections and just choose him. While supporters said it was a joke, then why didn't the crowd laugh. Instead, they cheered him lustfully.
He does not care about constitutional constraints on presidential powers when he said he would like all cop killers to get the death penalty.
Has a propensity to punish critics that disagree with him. That sounds like a leader of a banana republic rather than a leader of the free world. Again, his supporters gleefully cheer him on, but onlookers should be very concerned. Do we want political opponents to fear politically-motivated investigations or media members having to watch their words or face reprisal? That sounds more like Russia...
No wonder, Putin and him get along.
Do we support our great democracy or will we let our anger get the best of us and risk being run by a dictator.
Don't say he didn't warn you...
