The first time I remember that tactic was when I confronted someone about some bad things he had been doing.
He went into attack mode and was yelling and screaming, getting very red in the face and indignant about how poorly he was being treated and that he hadn't done any of this and so on. I was taken aback as I hadn't expected that reaction & thought maybe I had missed something or made some mistake.
I backed off & double checked everything and was able to prove beyond a doubt that he had in fact done all of those things and more. His anger was all a defense mechanism.
