First, bernice anders was nothing more than a scrimmage. Not a real competitor, just someone on whom the uterus could sharpen her lackluster skills. He thought it was a real primary.

And with all the scandals going on and even not bothering to close down the crime syndicate while running for office, she had to believe the DNC, the white house, the media, academia and the GOPe would make sure that she won.
No one would run with that kind of baggage, unless they knew, or thought they knew, that the deal was fixed.
