I don't claim expertise in the field of education, but I was a management consultant in the utility industry for 30 years. I have seen my share of utility executives that wandered out of their core competency area through "diversification" and made fools of themselves. (A classic example was an electric utility that bought a retail drug store chain - sheer hubris).
