The play calling has been suspect are you ?
Maybe 10 yard passes would make defenders jump patterns and increase the risk of a pic ?
Maybe their open and our QB needs to discern his options better
Maybe an improved running game which we're seeing will begin to help.
Maybe our OC is making use of our players skills since we don't have except for a TE a true pocession receiver like say TJMoe.
Maybe that facet of our offense isn't developed enough to do that to the extinct (but as you know) we will do it at times now.
I would think many things go into the decision of how to attack a defense. This is possibly a few of them.
A short pass should have a higher percentage rate of completion, but we have also been successful throwing deep. How much of either should be used is of course a matter of opinion.
