Patriotism when sincerely felt and freely determined is a good thing. Patriotism is great in america. Patriotism can be lauded or mocked as you prefer, when displayed.
Patriotism can unite a nation...or a college campus on a smaller scale. It can identify the greatness that all citizens have in common and make them proud. It can focus on a common enemy and make them angry.
It needn't be displayed. It can be heartfelt and private.
It can also be contrived, required and shouted from rooftops under fear of retribution.
Patriots can disagree with their government, a point you ham handedly and incorrectly posited earlier.
I love my country. I distrust my government.
I trust this is the end of the essay part of the test. If my answer is insufficient, oh well.
