It is an annual event, sponsored by the Catholics in NY as an honor for the first Catholic on a major ticket, Al Smith. MOST ALL candidates who have appeared at this make self-deprecating comments. This was where W said. "Is our children educated". Trump got booed b/c he got mean and political. The Al Smith Dinner not a place to politic.
