In the 2000 election GW Bush was the preferred candidate of the deep state and the media fawned over what a regular guy he was while trashing Gore over ginned up crap. The bias was blatant. But GW was the son of a former CIA director and was put in as a legacy by the deep state.

Hillary is the preferred candidate of the deep state. Bill was recruited into the CIA in college. Hillary has faithfully served the deep state just like Bill did. So Trump is getting the Gore treatment in the press.

The deep state is bi-partisan. In fact it likes to rotate elected officials between parties. Creating the illusion of democracy. Enhances US soft power abroad. Lets politicians pose as "standing up for the average guy" while allowing class warfare to ravage the average guy. "We would like to (insert policy action here) but those dang (insert political party here) keep blocking us." Rinse, later and repeat.

To understand how the system works, you have to correlate and integrate evidence across time periods and countries. Like comparing what happened in the 2000 election to what is happening in the 2016 election. The tactics are recognizable and repeat. The partisan bluster is just a con.
