In economic development there is a phenomena of the Ripple Effect. Whenever large infrastructure programs kick in, there is economic growth in the area, new businesses crop up to support the activities generated by the investment and a percentage of those new businesses remain in place after the project is completed, fed in part by the private investment that follows the public investment. That was always part of our calculations in putting together programs for bridge, sewer or major road work projects with the regional planning commission where I was the Economic Development Specialist. IT DOES WORK
