making a claim of an alleged assault some 36 years ago by someone I have never supported or given one rat's ass about. So why would that matter to me.

The GOP candidate is heard on a video tape bragging of being a predator. Not many would care ya know if he were not, ya know, the candidate selected by the GOP to be their candidate for president of these united states.
