1. AAU ball
2. The kids the last 15-20 years are the first waves of kids who grew up completely in the SportsCenter era of showcasing 1 on 1 highlights of the NBA. Team play and team attitude as greatly diminished.
3. Early NBA entrants. If the number of kids allowed to leave early was limited to the number of kids who can actually get recruited in the first round, it would make a huge difference. The 5 or 10 truly elite kids who leave early each year is nearly a non-issue. It's the 50+ other kids who leave early each year that decimates talent and experience on college rosters.
4. Lots of effed up rules changes. We call way too many touch fouls outside and not nearly enough hard fouls in the paint.
5. D1 has gotten too large. There are more cupcake games than ever, and they just aren't that interesting.
6. College football has exploded the last 15-20 years and it steals almost all the attention away from early season basketball. In the 80's and even 90's, the early season hoops tournaments were a bigger draw than the last couple of weeks of CFB. Conf Champ games is a part of that as well. Champs aren't decided by Nov 1 anymore.
