but the roles have reversed, from what I can tell.
They're not ****ing with things to gain power, they're using the power they have to maintain as close to balance as we can get.
You can't have one superpower, that just leads to stupid **** like flexing political power in countries like Ukraine instead of letting people decide for themselves. In proxy wars, real or psychological, you've got to have a counterbalance.
I think we've become what we were always told the USSR wanted. We're out there flexing power everywhere with little consequence.
MAD is the only thing that really kept us normal, just like it kept them normal. It doesn't have to be Russia, but we need someone with the power and desire to kill all of us to keep 'Murica in check.
