Today and for a few decades there have been people entering politics soley to get rich. Smoking great benefits. Pension is out of this world. And once you "serve" a term or two, K-Street welcomes you with 6-7 figure lobbying gigs.

But I think there are still plenty who, like Feingold, Denny Kucenich, Bill Bradley and a bright-eyed young Hillary Rodham who enter the game to serve. Roosevelts and to a lesser degree the Kennedies had a sense of nobless oblige about it. W, though when asked why so many in his family got into politics answered "the pussy."
