I do believe the guy has one gear; Counter Attack, Double Down

This is time when he needs to pivot and mend fences. Instead he's attacking. ONLY appealing to his base.

Very real possibility is he knows he's going to lose and that alone is enraging him. Going to take as many down with him as possible.
