The folks now abandoning Trump for these comments were looking for cover to not vote for him. Seriously, they had to support the Party and didn't want to support him. He gave them the excuse they needed.

The vast majority of folks voting for Trump weren't doing so for him. They were voting against Hillary or against the Establishment. Those folks will still vote for hm, in my opinion. It'll cost him with the undecideds and with the Republicans who didn't like him in the first place.
