People who can tell the difference between bad and worse, and have a vote in it, will normally and overwhelmingly vote for bad. That doesn't mean that they support bad, but they want to avoid worse, and face the predicament of their failure to participate resulting in worse.
The piece was clearly written to discourage participation of evangelicals in the process. It presents a false choice and plays the guilt card against any who do participate.
