I'd be tempted to take no more kids in 2017 unless they're truly elite. Top 50 maybe. Not that we could get one of those guys, but you take if you can.
If the staff really feels like Kemp will be something in a couple of years, redshirt him. Having 5 in a class is bad balance. Cut this class to 4 and add 1 to the 2017 class with Roberts. If they feel like he's just not going to develop, push him through as fast as possible or bury him so that he wants to transfer.
So right now, we're sitting with 2 spots in the 2018 class. Decent odds that somebody leaves over playing time if nothing else, giving us 3 spots for 2018, which is ideal. The way the roster shapes up right now, we don't need a PG in 2018. Go all out for Gordon...have a viable backup plan....and a wing.
Then in 2018, you're looking for a PG, a Wing, and a Big in your freshman class. That leaves 2 spots available. You an look for a juco or two or a transfer that can slide into the 2017 or 2018 classes.
Our class balance the next few year looks like this....assuming no transfer out prior to the 2018 signing class.
Sr......Jr......So......Fr
1 ......1.......5.......5........2016-2017
1.......5.......5.......1........2017-2018
5.......5.......1.......2........2018-2019
5.......1-3.....2-3.....3........2019-2020
1-3.....2-3......3......3-5......2020-2021
Now, clearly a redshirt or a transfer out makes a slight change to this. Sliding a juco or a transfer into the classes with Roberts or the 2018 signing group is ideal and would allow us to have complete balance by 2020.
Of course some defections affect this plan, but if you assume there won't be any, this is the plan that MUST be followed or we'll continue to hamstring ourselves in future recruiting. Going into any signing period with only 1 scholarship is ALWAYS bad. Going into any signing period needing 5+ players to fill a roster is almost always bad.
