What it may do, what i hope it does, is to get people to think that gee, trump's first major decision in politics was a good one.
And fat hillary has made yet another dreadful decision. Maybe moves people from fat hillary to the couch, and some from the couch to trump. Maybe some of trump's "conservative" critics to ease up a bit. Maybe solidify the R base while convincing some hesitant Rs that they cannot let fat hillary get the whitehouse.
And maybe it starts just a bit of momentum for trump. Or it knocks obstacles for momentum out of the way.
VP debates don't change votes between the candidates, but they can have significant if subtle impact.
