discussion and one that explores the actual condition of a nation.
Monkeys jumping around pressing all the wrong buttons at all the wrong times can only do so much damage in eight years, especially when operating within a government designed to cancel out its own effects.
The condition of the United States is not (and has not) been the product of the government, but of the citizens and their various interests. This reality is amplified in the United States by freedom which is held by all as the highest virtue.
List all the countries in the world and then list the area where they are doing something more interesting or cutting edge than the United States. This will be a weird, motley list because most countries are mimicking something started and/or current in the cutting edge of societal evolution: the United States.
Sure, we occasionally vote for people that do everything in their power to stop, wreck, distract and generally muck up the works - but eventually those people resoundingly fail and we move on without them, letting their works fall to the wayside.
This is why 50 years of perfectly executed conservatism or 'Adam Smith'ism or whatever would not necessarily deliver the nation to a superior condition vs. 50 years perfectly executed socialism: free people dismiss what doesn't work and move on.
