Don LOVES the adulation of these crowds - crowds that will become a thing of the past. In six weeks there will be no more crowds and the adulation will fade.
Don is also never wrong. He won the debate. The bubble in which he lives enforces that. He gets on his jet and it's Fox News and Fox Friends all the time. He is doing great. Won by landslides, the polls prove it.
Why bother to prepare. Preparation is HARD. George Bush practiced debating every other week for six months to prep Gore debates. Hated it. But he did it. Don doesn't want to do it. Though I am sure there will be a few quick cram sessions. The debate is in 10 days. And those 10 days are mostly filled with adoring crowds chanting to build that wall !! and lock her up !!
That's way more fun than debate prep. And he is winning huge, believe me.
