because the candidates do not fit into nice easily definable boxes. There are multiple agendas going on that will cause a great deal of party line crossing in November.
1) Democrat -vs- GOP - this one is standard but not as important this year.
2) Social - HRC is the Lib and Trump the conservative.
3) Foreign Policy - I think HRC is the more conservative here
4) Status Quo - HRC is for politics as usual, Trump the outsider.
5) Trust - Both have trust issues with the public, it just depends on which issue you choose to focus upon.
Many people will focus on just one of these topics to decide their vote. That will cause more party line crossover than we have seen before. A lot of Pubs have already moved to HRC because they know she will play their game. At the same time HRC has struggled with much of the dem base because she is too much a part of the system.
