Hey, to get what you want, you have to make a few token gestures. So you give the rabble a few pennies.

See the marketing programs implemented for cell phones and satellite TV, etc. You know the con, they advertise some very low rate that only lasts for the for the first six months of a two year contract. Or give you a phone "for free" if you sign up for an abusive contract. Deceptive marketing is what America does best.
