Interesting article from Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Can't vouch for all the facts, but interesting. A lot of history on CIA dirty deeds in Syria back into the 1950s.
One key point (true or not) is how our efforts to overthrow Assad predate the "Arab spring" including a claim that the CIA promoted the 2011 demonstrations. The claim is made that Assad was put on our regime change list when in 2009 he rejected a gas pipeline from Qatar to Turkey.
Another key point is that while the American people are heavily propagandized, the people in the middle east know the history and as a result, don't trust America.
A third point is my own - These are examples of what I am talking about when I post about neo-colonialism. The installation of corrupt compliant rulers that serve the interests of foreign countries instead of their own people. I didn't count, but there must be at least six or seven examples of this in this article alone. But of course, we are the exceptional country that champions democracy around the world (sarcasm alert)
