Her difficulty swallowing leads to her aspirating saliva which causes her to choke when it hits her vocal cords.
One of the side effects from Parkinson's is aspiration pneumonia from too much saliva ending up down in your lungs.
And of course giving "allergy meds" like antihistamines can dry you out and lead to dehydration.
