give up runs from the 6th inning on you're going to win a bunch of games.

The Royals struggled this year because the GM didn't build Ned a push and play bullpen. If Ned is forced to make decisions as far as strategy you're not going to win. I can't even imagine how bad he'd be if he had to manage by NL rules every game.
