being biased, presumably to denigrate the veracity of the story.

But they presented significant evidence to back up their story. The shots at them appeared to me to be an attack on the messenger pointing out the lies... in effect your post was itself an attack on the truth.

There seems to be an orchestrated attack on anyone willing to point out the truth. Perhaps that type of thing is what intimidated the people in Hans Christian Anderson's classic, The Emporer's New Clothes. The townspeople were too afraid to speak out the obvious truth because of the adverse consequences they might experience, it took an innocent child to speak the truth. He didn't know he wasn't supposed to do so.
