lots of times in our life that you do things for propriety's sake if for nothing else. to be polite. to not cause a scene. to not draw attention to yourself. to show some respect for others, etc.
as i mentioned earlier today, i've stood up for probalby a dozen other nations anthems. it didn't mean i pledged my allegiance to them. It certainly didn't mean i PRAYED to their flags and it absolutely didn't mean i agreed with every single thing those particular nations have ever done in their collective history. that would be a ludicrous position and thought to take.
i did it so be respectful. and it doesn't hurt me one iota to stand there for a minute or two in silence in a respectful manner.
if you're so f*cking butthurt about the anthem don't stand up. that's your right. but you just prove you're lacking in manners.
