a #3 seed in the NCAA tourney. They lost to Xavier (a 14 seed), made only 14 of 27 free throws to lose 89-84. They were picked to finish last in the Big 8 by the coaches that season.

NU has still never won an NCAA tourney game, but that was probably their best opportunity.
