SANTA ANA – Matthew Granados, the 21-year-old man Santa Ana police suspect shot 16-year-old Alex Ramirez late Sunday night, turned himself in Tuesday evening, police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Granados surrendered to officers at the Tustin police station after his picture appeared in social media and news reports, Bertagna said. He was transferred to Santa Ana police custody later that night and booked on suspicion of manslaughter with a firearm enhancement, Bertagna said.

“He said something that led investigators to book him for manslaughter rather than murder,” Bertagna said. What Granados said was not disclosed.
