the Korean War. Spider transferred to Mizzou when he mustered out, but he rejoined the Army after graduation and retired as a major from the Corps of Engineers.
His first time back in Columbia after his retirement, was for Homecoming when his fellow fraternity brother, Mort Walker, creator of Beetle Bailey, was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Homecoming Parade. The inspiration for Beetle, Bill Rulon, was also in attendance.
Spider wore his old cheerleader outfit to prove that he was still in shape, and his drunken buddies persuaded him to get out on the track and lead cheers.
To be honest, it really didn't take much persuasion.
