If there is an opening, why not? Many coaches are often very loyal to their assistants, though, and won't fire someone in order to bring in someone in a package deal.
And, of course, you can only do the package deal if you hire the person for one of the three full time assistant positions. In the old days, you could hire someone to be video coordinator or director of basketball operations and have them bring a recruit with them. That is no longer allowed. With only three assistant positions, you really want someone who is also an asset as a coach. If you bring in someone with a one and done recruit and they aren't any good at coaching, I guess you can jettison them after one year.
