Missouri basketball was a top 10 team nationally in the polls, in fact the only program in the SEC in the top 10 and one of only 2 SEC programs at that time ranked.
MU had the reigning SEC Player of the Week, one of three Tigers that season to earn that distinction.
The Tigers were fresh off their very first SEC game after leaving the Big 12 behind, an 84-68 dismantling of Alabama.
MU would be one of 3 schools in the entire nation that week to have multiple players selected among the 25 choices for the midseason Wooden award to project the national player of the year.
The prior 4 seasons included 2 conference championships, 4 NCAA tourney selections, two end of season top 10 national rankings, and an average of 27 wins per season.
MU would at season’s end feature a 1st team all SEC conference player and a 2nd team all SEC conference player selection.
4 players in the program at that point would go on to either be drafted by or play in the NBA.
Less than 1,900 days is how long it took for MU basketball to get from that point to this one. Of course with a reasonable amount of effort and competence we can return, the question is if we are willing to give it.
