...to be a reason: like we are running some sort of very different scheme than everyone expects. After the first game or two, any advantage from keeping a lid on things early will tend to almost completely vanish.

It would be interesting to do a quantitative survey of how much advantage there is to be gained by secrecy. Not sure even of how to set that kind of test up. And I wonder if it really does tend to tamp down fan interest and eat into ticket sales? I admit to hating the secrecy but if it works for my team, that's my problem!
