All the he while telling them how good they have it, and how much libs care about them. And how if they were set free, the non libs would REALLY hurt them.

Like hostages in the Helsinki Syndrome, slaves come to believe that, and sympathize with their masters.

Blacks get food stamps, welfare, and a free phone from their masters. Any of them who dare to leave the plantation get torn apart by viscous dogs in the press. Clarence Thomas may be the best example.

So they have come to accept the only life they have ever known. They obey their masters and stay quiet on the plantation. Except of course, when their masters call upon them to riot and demand government do more. A few of the lucky ones get to be elevated the plantations and are put in charge of other slaves.
