Not exactly going out on a limb, but I think he was interested in coming on board until it became obvious we were just flat-out bad.

These kinds of recruits are often willing to sign with mediocre teams if they believe they have the ability to be the missing piece that pushes them over the edge. They'll almost never sign with a team that's just awful, though. I don't know what the cutoff is, but if we win, say, 17 games this year, that might be enough.
