Where he's at is a great gig. Dabo Sweeney is a long-term guy who has proven himself. That means job security for Venables.
Snyder needed the opportunity. Iowa's pay back then was a pittance compared to what top football coordinators make now. It used to be you had to become a head coach to make good money. Not true anymore at top programs. The haves versus the have-nots have made the gap enormous.
Venables currently makes 1.35 million a year. He doesn't need to leave, and that's assuming he has what it takes to be a head coach. Not every great coordinator does or desires to, much less goes to a place like K-state. For an example, see where Kirby Smart landed after being at Bama for 9 years. Venables could become head coach at another top 10 school and get 4-5 million to START. Snyder at the top of his career now only makes about 3 million. Think K-State can pay top 10 school dollars, especially as the revenue gap widens going forward?
It just ain't gonna happen.
