my memory about having read/followed it a bit online (STLToday.com) from Dallas at that time. Wasn't in STL that much at all during the span of it or during the investigation, which was buried on the back pages of the PD as local LEO (STL, STL County, St. Charles County, Merto East) & the FBI (Quantico & Local Agency) began coordinated efforts.
Had competely forgotten about it. Brownapolooza didn't cause a recollection at the time either.
F'n pig was building cells in his basement torture chamber to hold victims for much longer periods of time when they caught him. They provided Psych Counseling for any of the officials who viewed his video recordings that were found behind a fake wall. Placed bodies all over STL off highways (MoDOT discovered one), alleys & woods (Eastside & West Alton up near the Confluence were favorite spots.
FBI/Local LEOs thought there were 11 victims that they had found, but after he sent a letter to the reporter covering the story at the STL-PD with a map marking the spot of a 12th victim & was later caught, he took them on a field trip with The Howard Stern show on the radio (his request) to locate 5 more bodies for a total of 17 (almost all prostitutes - "crack whores" as he referred to them frequently).
